Guest Blog: Wes & His Autopot XL System

We always love to see what our customers and followers are growing, and Wes (@fig_grows_81) caught our eye on social media recently with his fig growing setup using an Autopot system.

So much so that we thought we would reach out to him and get him to do a guest blog for us to have a closer look at his setup and what he’s growing at the moment, so over to you Wes…

“Hi, I’m Wes and I’ve been asked if I could give you a little insight into what I grow and how my growing technique has adapted, here goes!

I have been growing figs for a few years now and expanding my collection to just over a few hundred varieties. From meeting and making many friends on social media I was then introduced into the world of tomatoes, whilst growing other vegetables and salads along the way down at the allotment.

I am constantly wanting to improve and lengthen my growing season so went on a mission to obtain a polytunnel. This was achieved by a lot of searching online and a little creativity and help from Niall the black beauty tomato king.

Along the way, I have been fortunate enough to have become friends with Jason from Autopot whilst looking into potting on my fig trees. He also has a fig tree down at his RnD facility which he has grafted other varieties onto. Jason kindly advised me to use a large XL pot setup (pictured below) and have been spending some time now setting these up in the polytunnel I’m ready for this growing season.

The Autopot setup so far consists of 66 XL pots fed by 6mm-16mm piping that run to a 400Ltr water tank and this whole setup will be used on my tomato collection this year!!

I am hoping to announce soon enough which feed I’ll be using for the tomatoes and I can not wait to share with you the results of this year’s crops.

I hope to see you again later in the year for our catch-up when the season is in full swing!”

We look forward to seeing how Wes gets on with his tomatoes in the Autopot system!
