GAS Sono Ultra Ducting
G.A.S Sono Ultra Ducting – Premium Acoustic Ventilation Ducting
G.A.S Sono Ultra Ducting is a high-performance acoustic ventilation ducting designed to reduce fan and airflow noise while maintaining efficient air movement through extraction systems. Its three-layer, fibreglass-free construction provides effective sound absorption without the bulk of some traditional insulated ducting.
Developed as a cost-effective alternative to conventional acoustic ducting, Sono Ultra combines a non-woven inner duct liner with 250g polyester acoustic insulation and a durable matt black PVC-coated aluminium outer layer.
The polyester insulation absorbs sound travelling through the ducting without using fibreglass, while the protective outer covering provides strength and resistance to moisture. This makes Sono Ultra particularly suitable for indoor horticultural environments where ventilation equipment operates for extended periods.
Lightweight and flexible, Sono Ultra is easy to route around equipment and through confined spaces, making it a practical choice for grow rooms, grow tents and general ventilation installations where reducing noise is important.
How to Fit G.A.S Sono Ultra Ducting
Sono Ultra connects to correctly sized male spigots on extraction fans, carbon filters and ventilation fittings. As an insulated acoustic ducting product, the inner duct should be secured correctly to help maintain airflow and prevent air leaks.
- Measure and cut: Measure the required ducting length, allowing enough material for secure connections. Cut carefully using suitable tools, taking care not to damage the inner liner or insulation.
- Prepare the connection: Carefully pull back the outer jacket and polyester insulation, where the construction allows, to expose the inner duct liner.
- Connect to your equipment: Slide the inner duct over the correctly sized male spigot of your extraction fan, carbon filter or duct fitting.
- Secure the connection: Use a suitable Jubilee clip, fast clamp or duct tape to secure the inner duct around the spigot. Ensure the connection is properly sealed to minimise air leaks.
- Replace the outer covering: Reposition the insulation and outer jacket over the connection, where applicable, and secure the outer covering with suitable duct tape.
- Position the ducting: Gently extend the ducting along its intended route, keeping it as straight as practical. Avoid unnecessary bends, kinks or excessive compression.
Joining Two Lengths of Sono Ultra Ducting
If you need to join two lengths of Sono Ultra, use a correctly sized male duct connector.
Secure the inner ducting from both lengths over the connector using suitable clamps or duct tape. Where the construction allows, reposition the polyester insulation and outer jackets over the joint and seal the outer covering.
Installation Advice
For the best airflow and acoustic performance, keep ducting runs as short and straight as practical. Gently extending flexible ducting helps reduce internal ridges that can create turbulence and increase resistance.
Avoid sharp bends and unnecessary changes in direction. Where a bend is required, consider using a Pressed or Sectional Duct Bend to provide a consistent bend radius and help maintain smoother airflow.
Longer ducting runs should be adequately supported to prevent sagging and unnecessary strain on the connections.

- Suitable for damp environments: Designed to retain its structure when exposed to moisture and dry faster than traditional acoustic ducting.
- Lightweight and flexible: Easy to position and install in a range of ventilation setups.
- Fire retardant: Class B1 fire classification, subject to the manufacturer's stated testing conditions.
- Wide operating range: Specified for temperatures from -20°C to +150°C, pressures up to 2500 Pa and air velocities up to 30 m/s.
Choosing the Right Acoustic Ducting
When selecting Sono Ultra, choose a ducting diameter that matches the spigot size of your extraction fan, carbon filter or ventilation fitting. Correctly sized ducting helps maintain airflow and ensures a secure connection.
Sono Ultra vs Traditional Acoustic Ducting: Conventional acoustic ducting often uses fibreglass or fibrewool insulation to absorb sound. G.A.S Sono Ultra instead uses polyester acoustic insulation, offering a lightweight, fibreglass-free alternative with improved drying characteristics in damp environments.
For ventilation systems where further noise reduction is required, Sono Ultra can also be used alongside a suitable duct silencer to help reduce noise travelling through the extraction system.
