The Grow Room

The Latest Update from the Grow Room – New Season

We welcome you back to The Green House Effect Grow Room, one of the UK’s only in-store grow rooms, in which we display and demonstrate some of the products we sell in our shop, whilst growing a variety of species of plants.

To kick off this edition of the grow room we are going to walk you through the harvesting of our Thai chilli plants. 🪴

Chilli Havest

For the last few months, we’ve been growing Thai chilli plants in our ALIEN EasyFeed gravity-fed grow system, and would say we have had a bountiful harvest of over a hundred red and green chillies this time round… and these chillies pack a punch!

Safely using Chikamasa Pruning Scissors, we harvested the remaining chillies from each of our plants.

We’ve had a pretty decent haul (over 100 chillies) as you can see in the photos below…

Now that we have harvested our Thai chilli plants we are going to clean our EasyFeed system before starting our next grow.

Grow Room Revamp

For our next project in the grow room, we are going to try our hand at some different chilli plants, this time the infamously hot Trinidad Moruga Scorpion chillies, one of the hottest chillies in the world.

It is essential to sterilise your equipment between grows…  so we have used Growth Technology Liquid Oxygen, which is a highly effective solution to clean our tanks and pots, however, there are also other sterilising products on the market.

Some good alternatives to Liquid Oxygen are Terra Aquatica Flashclean and

Next up we fill our EasyFeed fabric pots with a fresh helping of Gold Label 60/40 Mix.

Following that we then water our chosen media with a sprayer and prepare to pot on our Moruga Scorpion chillies.

We are also going to add some mycorrhizae beneficial fungi to help extend the Scorpion chilli plant’s root zone.

Before we pot on our Moruga Scorpion chillies into our Easyfeed system we first apply some Psycho Mycho mycorrhizae to help further extend the root zone… you read our blog on the benefits of using mycorrhizae here.

Now that we have added our mycorrhizae and potted on our plants into our Easyfeed fabric pots we can connect up the rest our EasyFeed gravity-fed grow system. This system is a firm favourite of ours as it is very easy to use and get decent results.

At the time of writing, we had some further growth of our scorpions, and have used some plant supports in our EasyFeed…

We will keep you updated with how our Trinidad Moruga Scorpion chillies get on over the coming weeks, stay tuned! 🌶️
