The Lowdown on Grow Room Fans

Updated Friday 30 June 2023

Growing plants indoors? Well no matter the weather outside, we highly recommend that you keep a few fans running in your grow room to get the most out of your grow and keep your plants happy.

Fans are an often-overlooked grow room workhorse and are essential to help deliver carbon dioxide to your plant’s leaves. They can also help prevent diseases and reduce heat spots in your grow room.

In this blog we are going to take a look at the different types of fans we sell, so that you can keep your grow room cool and breezy all year round, providing the ideal environment for your plants to thrive!

Air Movement Fans

Air movement fans (also referred to as air circulation fans) help growers achieve optimal climate conditions in their grow room by circulating air around the room.

They are a great way to moderate the temperature of the room, helping to keep it cool and create a constantly moving atmosphere.

Air movement fans have a multitude of advantages when it comes to the aeration of your plants when growing indoors… keeping your grow room cool and helping the air in the room move around freely… and they also help prevent hot spots and circulate C02.

Pro Tip: Don’t blast air directly onto your plants too powerfully, instead opt for a nice gentle consistent breeze. This will also help strengthen plants and help prevent mold issues.

EC Fans

Efficient and powerful EC Fans are a must-have for your grow room. Electronically Commutated (EC) fans combine the benefits of both AC and DC fans, essentially giving you a fan with a brushless DC motor.

EC Fans give you the control that an AC fan gives you over the fan rotor by using a printed circuit board, and they also have the advantage of built-in variable speed control thanks to the DC motor.

The EC fan is powered by an AC electrical supply, but the onboard electronics convert the power to DC before reaching the motor. The secondary magnetic field generated by the permanent magnets makes EC fan motors considerably more efficient than AC induction motors.

Maintaining the perfect environment in your grow room is essential to getting maximum yields and with a high-performance EC fan you can get rid of stale air and balance the CO2 level around your plants.

By using a fan controller you can also have much more control over your EC extractor fans.

Benefits of EC fans over more traditional fans:

  • Reduced energy consumption.
  • Integrated variable speed control.
  • High-efficiency even at part speeds.
  • Lower motor noise, particularly under speed control.
  • On-board motor-electrical protection.
  • Compact motors making them readily interchangeable for retrofits.
  • Run cooler than AC induction motors.

Inline Fans

Your ventilation system can make or break your grow room setup, and a ventilation system is not complete without inline fans to remove stale air and bring in CO2. To ensure our plants have a constant supply of fresh air we need to use inline fans!

Inline fans are ultra-reliable and used in many different industries and can deal with high temperatures, high humidity, grease, dust, and other contaminants without issue. They are much more powerful than the standard ceiling or wall-mounted extraction fans, as they are available with very high-power motors. Inline fans are also super compact for easy installation.

Wooden Box Fans

If you require your fans to be as quiet as possible while still moving large volumes of air, Wooden Box Fans are the ultimate choice. Wooden Box Fans use high-end Torin Safin squirrel cage fan motors, MDF box enclosures and are lined with soundproof acoustic foam.

More often than not Wooden Box fans are built as a right-angled design, this allows the fan to work at maximum efficiency and allows for installation in the corner of the room. 12 Inch fans can be built as a straight-through on request.

Available in various sizes and power outputs to suit all grow rooms and tents.
