Turn the Heat Up! 🔥

It’s that time of the year when the temperature drops…

So… we must take measures to protect our plants from the colder environment in our grow rooms and greenhouses, to give our plants the best chance of surviving the cold and having a healthy harvest.

What are the negative effects of cold temperatures?

  • A temperature drop in your grow room can lead to the yellowing of your plants.
  • While a drop of more than 6 degrees can cause a ‘dew point’ leading to condensation in your grow room, which can lead to mould growth and also reduce the effectiveness of your Carbon filters.

What can we do to protect our plants from the cold?

Greenhouse Heaters

Pick of the Bunch...

The LightHouse 3kW Greenhouse Heater is a great tool to use when trying to maintain temperatures during the cooler months.

The 3kW powerful output means it can quickly and effectively heat up large spaces. It also allows growers to reach and preserve the desired temperature allowing their plants to thrive.

Features

  • Easy to use, simplistic and robust design
  • Quiet Running
  • 3 Power Control Settings
  • Dual use – can be used as both a heater and a fan
  • High-performing and powerful heater at 3 kW
  • Overheating safety protection
  • Precise temperature control with the sensitive thermostat

Additives

Protect your plants from within by using an additive such as VitaLink Heat, formulated to protect plants against cold stress in cold and frosty conditions, allowing growers to achieve good results all year round.

VitaLink Heat helps plants grow and thrive when temperatures drop below 5 degrees Celsius. An advanced bio stimulant designed for use during cold periods to keep growing cost-effectively and using advanced technology.

  • Protects plants against stress in cold conditions
  • Prevents flower abortion
  • Allows side shoots and buds to develop
  • Encourages growth hormone production

Tank Heaters

It’s no good having a lovely warm room if you proceed to pour freezing cold water on to your plant’s roots – who would like having a freezing cold bucket of water poured over them when nice and snuggly? Feeding plants with a solution below 16 degrees can cause root shock and delay plant growth.

Pick of the Bunch...

These heaters feature a built-in thermostat and are the perfect solution for keeping your water at the optimum temperature for healthy roots and fast-growing plants. Cold water to the roots can slow down growth substantially.

Simply place the heater in the bottom of the nutrient reservoir, using the sucker feet, then set the temperature (usually 18-20c) and switch it on.

Therma Hygrometer

A therma-hygrometer is probably one of the most important pieces of equipment any grower within a managed environment can have. It’s the first thing we will ask you when trying to diagnose any problems with your plants.

Many plant deficiencies are caused not by a lack of one or the other mono nutrients/trace elements but by the environment. Hence why we always say “environment is key”.

Pick of the Bunch...

How do you know that you have created the perfect environment without one of these?

A therma-hygrometer simultaneously displays both the humidity and temperature in addition to indicating and recording the maximum and minimum temperature and humidity readings.

This version has a nice large, easy-to-read display and a remote probe.

Simply place the unit where you want to take a reading, and the display will show the temperature and humidity.

We hope that these product suggestions will give you some food for thought on how to protect your plants from the colder environment in your greenhouse or grow room this winter… thanks for reading!
