Description

Foil Ducting – Flexible Aluminium Ventilation Ducting

Our Foil Ducting is a cost-effective, flexible ventilation ducting suitable for connecting extraction fans, carbon filters and other ventilation equipment. Its reinforced, multi-layer construction provides a practical solution for moving air through indoor extraction and ventilation systems.

Manufactured from a three-layer aluminium and polyester laminate, the ducting incorporates an encapsulated high-tensile steel wire helix. This reinforcement helps the ducting retain its shape during installation, reducing the risk of collapsing or becoming restricted when correctly supported.

When installed fully extended and with minimal bends, the ducting provides a smoother airflow path, helping to reduce turbulence, pressure loss and unnecessary noise.

Lightweight and easy to work with, foil ducting is a popular choice for grow rooms, grow tents, greenhouse ventilation and general air extraction systems where a straightforward, economical ducting solution is required.

Available in diameters from 4" to 12" (100mm to 315mm), our aluminium foil ducting can be purchased by the metre or in convenient 10 metre boxes.

How to Fit Foil Ducting

Flexible foil ducting fits directly over correctly sized male spigots on extraction fans, carbon filters and ventilation fittings. Secure connections and careful positioning will help maintain efficient airflow.

  1. Measure and cut: Measure the length required for your installation, allowing enough material for secure connections. Cut the ducting carefully using suitable tools, taking care around the internal steel wire reinforcement and any sharp edges.
  2. Connect to your equipment: Slide one end of the foil ducting over the male spigot of your extraction fan, carbon filter or duct fitting. Ensure the ducting sits securely over the connection.
  3. Secure the connection: Use a correctly sized Jubilee clip, fast clamp or suitable duct tape to fasten the ducting firmly around the spigot. Make sure the connection is properly sealed to help prevent air leaks.
  4. Extend the ducting: Gently stretch the ducting along its intended route to reduce internal ridges and airflow resistance. Avoid overstretching or damaging the material.
  5. Complete the installation: Connect and secure the opposite end to your ventilation equipment or outlet. Ensure the ducting is properly supported and free from kinks or restrictions.

Joining Two Lengths of Foil Ducting

If you need to join two pieces of foil ducting together, use a correctly sized male duct connector.

Slide each length of ducting over the opposite ends of the connector and secure both connections using Jubilee clips, fast clamps or suitable duct tape. Ensure the joints are properly sealed to minimise air leaks.

Installation Advice

For the best airflow, keep ducting runs as short and straight as practical. Fully extending the ducting helps reduce internal ridges that can cause turbulence, increase noise and create additional resistance.

Avoid sharp bends, crushed sections and unnecessary changes in direction. Where a bend is required, we recommend using a Pressed or Sectional Duct Bend. These provide a consistent bend radius to help maintain smoother airflow.

Longer ducting runs should be adequately supported to prevent sagging and unnecessary strain on the connections.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Cost-effective ventilation: An economical choice for connecting extraction fans, carbon filters and other ventilation equipment.
  • Three-layer reinforced construction: Aluminium and polyester laminate provides flexibility and strength.
  • Steel wire reinforcement: The encapsulated helix helps the ducting retain its shape during installation.
  • Lightweight and flexible: Easy to cut, position and install in a variety of ventilation setups.
  • Efficient airflow: When correctly extended and installed, the ducting helps minimise unnecessary turbulence and pressure loss.
  • Range of sizes: Available from 4" to 12" (100mm to 315mm).
  • Flexible purchasing options: Sold by the metre or in 10 metre boxes.

Choosing the Right Foil Ducting

Select a ducting diameter that matches the spigot size of your extraction fan, carbon filter or ventilation fitting. Using the correct diameter helps maintain airflow and provides a secure connection without unnecessary restrictions.

Foil Ducting vs Combi Ducting: Standard foil ducting is a lightweight, economical option for general ventilation installations. For applications where greater resistance to damage is required, consider Black Combi Ducting, which features an additional protective PVC outer covering.

If reducing ventilation noise is your main priority, Acoustic Ducting or Phonic Trap Ducting may be more suitable, as these products are specifically designed to absorb sound travelling through ventilation systems.
