The Grow Room

The Growroom – Microgreens Week 1

Next up in The Growroom we are going to do a quick two-week grow!

How you might ask? Microgreens!

Microgreens are baby plants, they are tiny versions of leafy herbs and vegetables that are harvested right after their cotyledon leaves develop. Microgreens are young vegetable greens and are often used as a nutrition supplement and to add flavor and texture, they are even thought of to be healthier than full-sized greens!

Step 1

We start our microgreens off with two garland trays, the bottom tray, a Garland High Dome XL base and a top tray, a Garland Seed Tray (with holes), the top tray filled with Canna Coco Professional Plus.

Step 2

Next, we wet the coco with a fine spray to create some moisture so that it’s damp, we used a Kingfisher high-pressure hand sprayer.

Step 3

Our next port of call is to sprinkle our microgreen seeds making sure they are distributed evenly.

Step 4

Next, we give our seeds another spray to ensure everything is moist.

Step 5

We then place a third seed tray on top of our seeds and weigh it down. This will keep the coco moist, keep the seeds in the dark and help them germinate. Make sure the tray has holes in it to ensure air circulation as mold can grow without airflow.

Note: Having germinated an earlier batch without placing the third tray on top we found that when the seeds germinated, they came up carrying a layer of coco on top. By weighing it down it makes the germinating seeds push through the coco completely.

That’s it for this week! Our Microgreens should pop up in a couple of days, we’ll give you an update next week.
