The Grow Room: April 2026 Update – Healthy Roots, Strong Growth

Here’s a quick update from our grow room, having recently potted on our tobacco plants, tomato plants, and cucumbers.

Things are progressing exactly as we’d like to see at this stage, and our Alien Hydroponics Recirculating Deep Water Culture system is delivering consistent, healthy results across the board. One of the standout moments this week has been checking in on our tobacco plant — lifting the lid to reveal a mass of bright white roots running through our Alien RDWC system. Clean, well-oxygenated roots like these are always a strong indicator that the hydroponic environment is properly dialled in and the plant is able to perform at its best.

We’re currently running the Terra Aquatica Tri-Part nutrient range in the system, which is supporting strong root development and balanced growth throughout.

Temperature control is another key part of keeping a hydroponic system running smoothly. Keeping the root zone cool helps maintain dissolved oxygen levels and prevents stress or disease. We’re using a Hailea chiller to keep conditions stable, ensuring the roots stay in that ideal range for healthy growth.

Alongside this, our tomato plants and cucumbers are continuing to establish themselves nicely within the hydroponic system. Growth is steady, structure is developing well, and they’re clearly responding to both the environment and feeding regime. For our tomato plants, we’re using House & Garden Coco as our growing medium, alongside Growth Technology Tomato Focus to support healthy development and fruiting. For our cucumber plants, we’re using Formulex, which is also performing well within the system.
